About
Marian grew up the third youngest of nine children in a south Brisbane suburb before moving to Darwin in 1969 for two weeks. Almost forty years later she still resides in the Northern Territory capital.
Apart from the compulsory school reader Marian had never read a novel until, aged eleven, her elder brother gave her a book featuring nurses in the Australian outback for Christmas. She’s been an avid reader ever since.
Her writing journey started by penning poetry, mostly for her own pleasure but sometimes as gifts for special occasions for family and friends. When her son was small she wrote and illustrated a few story books based around Australian wildlife for him which remain somewhere at the bottom of the chest keeping company with report cards, medals and other paraphernalia from her children’s early years.
Marian began writing short stories, entering into various writing competitions, and in 2011 was awarded a Special Commendation in the Sisters in Crime – Scarlet Stiletto Awards for A Good Sunday Roast and in 2016 was long listed in the UK Crime Writers Association – Margery Allingham Short Story competition for The Litter Artist.
Marian is presently working on her first full length novel set between Australia and a fictional South Pacific island.
When not writing Marian still paints, mostly oil landscapes with a few portraits making their way into the mix, travels (as much as possible), tries to reduce her golf handicap (which stubbornly refuses to budge lower than 30), enjoys coffee with friends and looks forward to any time she can spend with her children and grandchildren who all live interstate.
